“In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ “
Acts 20:35
Ghana Ministry
What do we do?
Witness our Christian faith through coordinating people and resources in support of local clergy and institutions; and by seeking to sustain and safeguard Orthodox Christian communities domestically and abroad through prayer, education, and material sustenance.
How do we do it?
Committing to Christ personally and taking an Orthodox Christian approach to discerning needs, brining awareness, formulating action plans, and supplying materials where appropriate while coordinating with local Church leadership.
Whom do we do it for?
Serving all interested domestic and foreign Orthodox faithful primarily by responding to invitations from local Church leaders.
What value are we bringing?
Connecting smaller Orthodox Christian communities with the greater Orthodox world through the Word of God and by fostering better communication, organizational interaction locally and internationally, easing access to technology and educational resources where appropriate.
The Youth Ghana Team
Locally, the Ghana Ministry members work collaboratively with our Ghanaian Orthodox community partners to encourage the growth and sustainability of the Ghanian Orthodox community across all of Ghana. Understanding the youth of any community is its’ future, our work began by establishing a youth camp to create one outlet amongst numerous parishes for the Ghanaian Orthodox youth to come together. The first youth camp took place through the support of OCMC in August of 2017. The camp brought together almost 200 Ghanaian children from twenty-two different parishes across the country some of which traveled as far as twelve hours by bus. The camp will operate again with the support of OCMC in August 2018 at which time we expect to have 300-400 children attend. The camp facilitates education, encourages youth connection and promotes the importance of “living the Orthodox way”. In addition to the camp, our team has worked together with our Ghanaian Orthodox partners to re-open St. Peter’s College, a vocational high school for the Ghanaian youth. St. Peter’s college is a continued focus of importance for the future of the Ghanaian youth. The ultimate goal is to help provide the school with all the resources needed to facilitate the highest education for the Ghanian youth. The Orthodox Ghanaians are inspirational in that they have such a strong sense of faith as a community. Their material possessions are minimal but their sense of family and faith is an inspiration and a reminder of all things most important in life. As a team, our Orthodox community in America along with our fellow Orthodox Ghanaians, strive to provide the necessary tools to encourage growth and sustainability for all Orthodox communities in Ghana.
We would not have been able to achieve half of what we have provided thus far without everyone’s love and support. On behalf of the team, OCMC, and our fellow Orthodox Ghanaians, we graciously thank you for all of your prayers, love and support.
